Formatting a hard drive will delete all data/information contained on the drive.
Make sure you have take backups of the the data you want to keep
before carrying out this task.
First connect your drive (pen drive, hard drive, iPod etc). in my case its an iPod.
once the drive is connected then go to my computer or computer
right click over it and select "manage"
Once the computer management window has appeared
navigate down to disk management
inside the disk management you will see the letters of the drives.
Important - Take note of the drive letter you wish to format and make sure its correct. (in my case its drive named 'J')
After you have noted the letter of the drive you want to format go the start
In the search or run box type in "cmd" and press return
this command prompt window will appear
in this window type in the following. "format DRIVE LETTER: /FS:FAT32" .. so this is my case is "format J: /FS:FAT32"
you will get a request to insert anew drive (ignore that as you have drive inserted).
then you will be asked to press enter when ready. so if your sure you have the drive letter correct press the return key
the time for this to complete will vary due to drive size and speed of the drive.
once it is completed press return again
it will then tell you the volume and the format of the drive
To leave the command prompt window just type in the word "exit" and press return
to make a final check of the drive return to computer manager and disk management
as you can see my drive has been formatted to FAT32.
